Why by default, Location Tagging feature is switched off, ie Record location= off
Background
1. Privacy
- There are potential privacy issues. Some users will not want Location information recorded for their images, and it should be a conscious decision by the user to switch this feature on.
2. Packet data charges
- A small amount of essential packet data is transferred over the network whenever A-GPS is active in order to get the assistance data (that’s how it works). There may be data charges associated with this.
3. Power consumption
- Whenever the A-GPS is active, power consumption increases. In order to give best battery life straight out of the box, A-GPS is disabled when camera is on.
